[EXCEL] – EDATE and EOMONTH FUNCTIONS

WHAT IS EDATE AND EOMONTH FUNCTIONS IN MICROSOFT EXCEL

EDATE and EOMONTH functions in Microsoft Excel returns the serial number that represents the date based on date and months selection. If we use EDATE function to calculate maturity dates or due dates that fall on the same day of the month as the date of issue. Similarly, if we use EOMONTH function to calculate maturity dates or due dates that fall on the the last day of the month.

SYNTAX FOR EDATE, EOMONTH FUNCTIONS IN MICROSOFT EXCEL

EDATE, EOMONTH functions in Microsoft Excel

In EDATE, EOMONTH functions required 2 functional arguments.

EDATE Function syntax =edate(start_date,months)

EOMONTH Function syntax =eomonth(start_date,months)

–> start_date should be date value. If we selected invalid start_date in both the functions then #VALUE! returns in cell.

–> Months argument should be integer. If months argument is positive integer value then will get future date, if it is negative integer value then will get past date.

TIPS & TRICKS:

  1. EDATE, EOMONTH functions are very powerful, and we can use in Excel many ways. For an example, if we want to get due date for next month or next month last day automatically, then we can write the following formula =EDATE(TODAY(),1) and similarly =EOMONTH(TODAY(),1)
  2. In real time EDATE, and EOMONTH functions will be useful project planning, resource planning, emi dates or due dates , dynamic templates creation with dates etc.
